About willy wood
Willy Wood is an education professional who instructs teachers on how to most effectively educate their students at the high school and college levels. The strategies and techniques that Willy Wood shares are based on his extensive research of the human brain and learning.
Wood's interest in the brain’s biological processes has provided him opportunities to present at national and international conferences. As the founder and president of Open Mind Technologies, Inc., based out of Columbia, Missouri, Willy Wood has also helped dozens of school districts with their educational effectiveness by consulting with faculty members and educators on the methods that they use within the classroom.
After initial success in the classroom using the techniques he developed, Willy Wood became a full-time education consultant. His method includes using brain-compatible teaching techniques to increase comprehension levels in each student. He has been recognized as an industry expert for his work in brain development and education. In one area of his research, Willy Wood found a strong correlation between the use of music in the classroom and the ability of a student to learn a new subject. He discovered that cognition is enhanced when music is closely connected to the material.
In addition to his consulting work, he is co-author of the book, “The Rock ‘n’ Roll Classroom: Using Music to Manage Mood, Energy, and Learning.” As the first book of its kind, it shows teachers how to effectively use music in the classroom. As explained in the book, Wood's research has shown that music can improve a student's mood, energy, focus, and retention.
